His blood shall be on us and on our children

These words were spoken by the crowd at Jesus hearing before Pilate.  No doubt that they meant that the guilt of the crucifixion of Jesus would be on them and on their children.  That is the meaning of the words that they spoke in response to Pilate not wanting the guilt of Jesus death to be upon him.  Interesting to note however that when one comes under the blood of Christ Jesus they are saved.  It is through the shedding of His blood that we are saved.  So though the people not thinking about salvation, the application of their words are that of salvation.  May the blood of Christ be upon me and cover me and wash me of my iniquities!
